While the day of your block party will be fun and filled with great memories, the chance to build stronger relationships with and amongst your neighbors will pay dividends for years to come.
This Tool Kit contains information about permits, timelines and sample flyers to make your block party a success.
What is The Big Rumble?
The Big Rumble is a series of events designed to connect the Bay Area with preparedness resources while commemorating the 1906 Great Earthquake & Fire and the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. These include resource fairs in participating cities, the Great Shakeout and residential block parties, among others.
Why host a block party in your neighborhood?
Block parties are a great way for neighbors to interact and connect. They can come in many forms, from blocking off a street in your neighborhood to hosting the event in the lobby or community room of your apartment building. The focus is to bring your neighbors together in the most convenient way possible for your community. In the event of an earthquake, your neighbors will be the people that you turn to first for support, so organizing a block party is a great way to get to know each other better and be better prepared.
